Hall of Fame is dedicated to recognizing those achievements and dedication to the theatre arts exemplified by the finest tradition of those who worked unselfishly to foster the availability, appreciation and who made outstanding contributions to the success of Cresson Lake Playhouse. Our mission is simple: to honor, preserve, and promote the arts.
The Hall of Fame will recognize the many people whose accomplishments and historical development of the theatre and the impact on the artistic culture of the Central Pennsylvania Region.
This award and recognition bears witness that those inducted in the Cresson Lake Playhouse’s Hall of Fame shall be forever honored. Through the efforts of Mrs. Eleanor Lantzy, founder of Cresson Lake Playhouse in 1974 and her vision to bring live theatre to the patrons of the Central Pennsylvania Region the theatre became a reality. With a $6,000 loan Eleanor began the theatre. Her success was because of a few key elements. The theatre had an exceptional artistic director; Eleanor has a good business background, plus the service of her husband John, an attorney. With a strong support staff in place essential to any business helped to build a strong foundation for the future of Cresson Lake Playhouse. The first show “I Remember Mama” was produced in July 1974. Eleanor has spent more than 37 years working to promote the arts and artistic throughout our region and it remains a positive asset to the region. The playhouse continues to provide a social network for area artist to come together for the love of the theatre and a place to full-fill their dreams.
Mrs. Jeannine Yahner and Ms. Mid Whiteford, volunteers who exemplify the true volunteers’ spirit are being honored for their many years of service to Cresson Lake Playhouse. The Ladies, as we fondly refer to them, were recruited by Eleanor Lantzy in 1974, and spent countless hours volunteering to help promote the playhouse. Jeannine and Mid served on the former Applause Committee, a strictly volunteer organization, responsible for mailings, organizing fund-raising events, ushering at the playhouse. Their unselfish efforts have contributed greatly to the continued success of the playhouse.
